For those of us who use Tweetie 2, god bless it, will have noticed a problem with peoples profile pics recently. Par example, my screen will occasionally look like this:
Nightmare!
Having looked into it, I noticed that twitter for whatever reason isn’t resizing newly uploaded profile pictures. You can see this as non square pics are appearing all squished and distorted.
I often change my profile picture and wanted to change it to the lovely Glottis here:

Glottis!
But as you can see he is too big and I only wanted his lovely big orange head. So I cropped and resized him using photoshop and low & behold he appeared properly in my tweetie feed.
Having done a little investigation I have discovered how to fix it. I shall run down the method in 2 ways, the people who can use photoshop method and the people who can’t use photoshop method.
I apologise for the very low level description for method 2 but I feel it’s worth baby stepping through it to avoid any ambiguity.
The People Who Can Use Photoshop Method
Here goes…
Crop your image to a square of at most 200×200 pixels
There we go. Now.
The People Who Can’t Use Photoshop Method
I’ve found a free online image editor which is perfect for what you need.
Go here and it should ask for a file or a URL. So either upload the image from your computer (Open image from computer) or provide it with a link to the file on the internet (Open Image from URL).
You should then be faced with something resembling this

There's Glottis!
From here press the C key to select the crop tool and draw a rough square around the section you wanna have. Having done that it should look like this:

Nicely Framed
Now from here, if you hold down the Shift key and drag the corner of the box it should readjust it to make sure its a proper square. Then double click and it should crop it appropriately. If all goes according to plan it should look like this.

Square Glottis!
Having done that, make sure the square you’ve made is less than 200 by 200 pixels. It says it at the bottom of the image there.
If it’s too big you can crop it more, or resize the image by clicking Image (at the top) and then clicking on Image Size. Be sure to keep it less than 200×200 pixels or it won’t show up in that thar Tweetie.
Finally, click File and then Save and then upload the created picture to twitter. Voila! you should now be more than a grey box in Tweetie. Good for you!
